Puma / Cougar
Meaning & Symbolism
The Puma, also known as the Cougar or Mountain Lion, symbolizes power, independence, and the importance of asserting yourself when necessary. Living in a wide range of environments, from mountains to forests, the Puma is a master of adaptability. Its ability to survive in diverse conditions speaks to the importance of resilience in our own lives. The Puma teaches us that there are moments when we must rise to the occasion, embrace our inner strength, and make decisive moves. By channeling the Puma’s assertive energy, we can take charge of situations that require leadership and courage.
One of the most remarkable traits of the Puma is its ability to scale incredible heights with ease and agility. The Puma often climbs to high vantage points to survey its surroundings, symbolizing the importance of gaining perspective before taking action. Just as the Puma climbs mountains, we too can metaphorically rise above our challenges to see the bigger picture. Instead of getting bogged down by overthinking or doubts, we can strive to elevate our minds, allowing us to make decisions with clarity and purpose. The Puma encourages us to move past hesitation and step into our power without fear of failure.
Puma has the ability to remain focused and undistracted by unnecessary noise. Pumas tend to rise above the chaos, climbing higher than any other big Cat. This trait teaches us the importance of not getting lost in over-rationalized thinking or being consumed by worries. Instead, the Puma encourages us to expand our minds and connect with something greater—whether that’s our intuition, creativity, or the mysteries of life. By doing so, we can find comfort in the unknown and tap into a deeper sense of security and wisdom.
In moments of difficulty, the Puma reminds us that we have the strength to “dig in our claws” and rise from the darkest situations. When we feel stuck or overwhelmed, the Puma’s energy calls on us to tap into our inner resources and push forward. Much like the Puma, which uses its stealth and patience to track its prey, we too can approach our goals with focus and determination. This animal teaches us that we are never truly trapped; instead, we possess the power to climb out of any challenge, reaching new heights both mentally and emotionally.
The Puma also represents the balance between assertiveness and gentleness. Though powerful, the Puma knows when to act with caution and precision. This balance is key in our personal lives—there are times when we must assert ourselves and make bold moves, and other times when a more subtle, patient approach is needed. By learning when to use our strength and when to be gentle, we can navigate relationships and life circumstances with greater wisdom.

I dreamt that I was with my kids and we went into a house. We were looking for something but then we got caught by the owner. He had a big dog and a lion and a black puma. He seemed to know why we had come and then showed us how he could command his animals. He then ordered them after us. We ran and I safely got my kids out but then found myself being chased. I ran to a room and locked the door but the lion broke through the door then pounced on me. I woke up in fear. What does this mean??
